Clifden is known as the "capital of Connemara" and must surely be one of the most picturesque towns in Ireland. It has a fascinating history with names like D'Arcy, Marconi, Alcock & Brown and many others cropping up all through it.
The scenery around Clifden is simply majestic, featuring the rugged Atlantic coastline and the towering Twelve Bens. There are many beaches within easy reach and some of the drives and walks are breathtaking. There is excellent trout and salmon fishing in the area and the sea angler is also well catered for. The town has many hotels, restaurants and bars and the famous Connemara golf course is only a short drive away.
